Types of Molds
While there are thousands of mold species around the world, below we identify a few common types that pose a danger to homeowners.
These are three of the most common molds that form in homes:
-
Aspergillus – This is a widespread mold found inside homes. It can cause respiratory infections, pneumonia, and allergic reactions. It is often found inside AC systems, so it’s spread throughout the home, and it can infest exposed food. Aspergillus can grow inside mattresses and pillows when there is excessive humidity. Colonies are usually a blackish-yellow color.
-
Cladosporium – It infests porous surfaces like wood or fabrics, but it can also thrive on very smooth surfaces like toilets, bath fixtures, fiberglass ventilation components, and painted drywall. This mold is usually black or green with pepper-like particles. It is considered a non-toxic mold species, but prolonged exposure to it can still produce allergic reactions like breathing difficulties, eye irritation, and sore throat.
-
Stachybotrys Chartarum – This mold is very dangerous. It is commonly known as black mold. Its colonies have a very dark, shiny appearance. It also gives off a distinct, musty odor. It is a known source of dangerous mycotoxins. This mold is usually found in places that are constantly damp like walls and floors where pipes may be dripping, or from AC components that are sweating.
The Dangers of Mold
Mold, especially after damage from water, can become a major issue if left untreated. Failure to address mold issues has resulted in countless litigation related to health issues and revenue losses. As a certified indoor air quality and mold removal company, ASAP Restoration utilizes high-tech testing and remediation equipment to work on both commercial and residential properties.

MOLD REMEDIATION STEPS
1
Evaluation
At this stage, tools and equipment are required. A remediation plan that includes the project timelines and the cost structure is essential to a successful strategy. Our teams will then prepare the home for the remediation process, provide you with cost estimates, and arrange for construction work where needed. During this process, we also remove items that could get in the way. We help you store valuables inside protective covers and finish preparing the area for cleaning.
Every job has a checklist of things that we must confirm before we conclude the work. We must review your HVAC systems and test air quality to ensure the cleaning was successful. We also help you return your items to your home after we have certified that the place is safe for occupancy.
2
Remove and Repair
Effective mold control involves cleaning and checking the area to make sure all leaks are stopped or corrected. It is important to make sure that all vulnerabilities are fixed before we start the process. Water and humidity levels in a home create a mold breeding ground. As such, it is important to identify and correct all plumbing problems before beginning.
Also, we ensure that the home’s air conditioning system is working fine. All contaminated parts of the HVAC systems must be removed. We have to be careful during the removal process to ensure that we do not release mold spores into the air. When possible, we work to remove the mold from as many of your items as possible. Whenever possible, we try to treat, refurbish, and return every item we can.
3
Clean, Decontaminate and Dispose
Once we have removed and repaired everything that could be salvaged, we begin working to clean and disinfect the structure. This step of the process involves sorting and decision-making. Some items must be disposed of safely, as they are mold-infested and toxic. As in the prior step, we work to salvage as much as possible using sanitary processes to clean each item. We may need several solutions and a HEPA-approved vacuum cleaner to finish this step. We have been in this business long enough to avoid potential pitfalls that other mold remediation companies often make. We make sure that we have all the tools needed to make every step a success.
